Photography Tips : Fireworks
Just been in Washington DC few days ago for the 4th of July fireworks. They say it is the best in the U.S.A. So I was ready for the challenge to have at least 2 or 3 great images. We have been sitting on the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial almost at the top. To have a great spot for me and my tripod we arrived 4 hours earlier. The fireworks started at 9:10 pm and I had 20 minutes to get that perfect shot. So let's see the details...
Use tripod for steadiness.
Exposure settings :
set your camera to Manual mode.
Shutter speed :
The longer the shutter speed more dramatic the firework trails will be. Take care you do not want to use too long shutter speed because it will spoil the image.
ISO settings :
Set at the lowest or at least 100 .
So these were my settings when I took this picture:
Shutter Speed: 1/4
The trick is pressing the shutter button down before it goes off and releasing it when the burst is at its peak. I used a wide angle lens to capture as much as I can. To avoid shakiness use remote or self timer.
